What Is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is about ensuring the safety, welfare, and well-being of children and vulnerable individuals. It involves protecting them from harm, abuse, and neglect while promoting their health, development, and opportunity to thrive.

At its core, safeguarding includes:

• Identifying and responding to concerns about a child's safety or welfare.

• together with schools, parents, and professionals to keep children safe.

• Preventing harm by creating safe environments and practices.

The ultimate goal is to protect individuals from risks, empower them to make safe choices, and ensure they feel secure and supported.

What Safeguarding Is Not:

• Safeguarding is not about policing minor disputes or everyday challenges.
• Our reporting tool should not be used for:
• Reporting children falling out, having disagreements, or minor friendship issues.
• Complaining about school policies, teaching methods, or staff.
• Raising issues unrelated to a child’s safety or welfare.

While these matters are important, they are not safeguarding concerns and can be addressed through other appropriate channels, such as speaking directly to school staff.

This tool is here to ensure that any genuine safeguarding concerns, such as risks of harm, neglect, or abuse, are identified and acted upon promptly. Let’s work together to protect our children and build a safe, supportive community.
